Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy
Whole body cryotherapy stimulates the body’s natural healing abilities. WBC uses extreme cold to induce responses on three levels: the circulatory system, the energy meridians and the nervous system. The history of whole-body cryotherapy began in Japan, developed in Europe and migrated to the United States. Clinical studies are numerous and focused on treatment of pain and inflammation from sports injuries, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and skin conditions like psoriasis and dermatitis.
After entering the Cryochamber at approximate -130 to -140 degrees Celsius you will be monitored by your technician for your entire treatment time in the chamber. A client’s time can range from 1 minute 30 seconds up to the full 3 minute treatment time. After you exit the chamber you be guided to change into your clothes, have a seat, drink some fluids, and warm your body up before leaving into the world.

Frequently Asked Cryotherapy Questions
Why do people use whole body cryotherapy?
Whole-body cryotherapy is used for its therapeutic benefits as well as its ability to reduce inflammation and promote the repair of damaged tissue.
How often can I have a cryotherapy session?
Cryotherapy sessions can be implemented safely as frequently as twice daily. For general use 2-3 sessions per week is the average. Professional or high-level athletes enjoy cryotherapy sessions up to 5 times a week.
How does cryotherapy work?
The Whole-body Cryosauna uses a gaseous form of nitrogen to lower the skin’s surface temperature by 30-50 degrees during a two to three minute session. The exposed skin’s reaction to the extreme temperatures is sending messages to the brain that stimulate natural regulatory functions of the body. Consequently, the skin’s exposure to these subzero temperatures triggers the release of endorphins, anti-inflammatory molecules, increases oxygen circulation within the bloodstream, and releases toxins from tissues.
Is cryotherapy dangerous?
No. The liquid nitrogen that is used as a cooling agent does not come into direct contact with your skin, and this is the same nitrogen that makes up the air we breathe (78% of it). In the chamber, the client breathes ambient air. All Cryochambers are equipped with an oxygen monitor for added safety. During your session, a trained technician is always present to control temperature levels and monitor your comfort.
What should I wear during a cryotherapy treatment?
Dry clothes, skin, and hair are the most important safety precaution when entering a cryochamber. All jewelry must also be removed. Knee-high socks, slippers, and gloves are provided by CWMC. Other than these articles of clothing women may enter the chamber without undergarments. Men must wear cotton or athletic shorts for added protection.
Is cryotherapy comfortable?
With the lack of moisture or air current, the temperature is quite tolerable. Clients may experience a tingling sensation toward the end of their session but it diminishes quickly after exiting the chamber.
Can I still use the cryotherapy chamber if I am claustrophobic?
Absolutely. The chamber is open at the top. Also, the platform the client stands on is part of an elevation system. The technician will elevate you so that your head and neck are above the nitrous cloud and top of the chamber. Clients are never fully enclosed in the chamber. The door is held shut with magnets but is never locked. A client may exit whenever they wish, but please give us a moment to lower the platform for your safety.
How soon can I expect results from a cryotherapy treatment?
Endorphins are released after every treatment. Endorphins are hormones that make you feel good, even euphoric, and energetic. This feeling will likely last for several hours. Most clients feel immediate relief from joint and muscle pain, improved energy, and an increase in flexibility that generally lasts for several hours or even days.
